The Michigan Dermatological Society, Inc. (MDS) was founded in 1921 for the purposes of furthering the advancement of dermatology in all its branches in Michigan and vicinity and to serve the members through clinical and scientific meetings and discussion of cases. MDS also supports the role of dermatologists as primary care physicians for the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair and nail diseases, serves as an advisory body to health care organizations, scientifically and economically, and promotes the highest standards of patient care and promote the public interest relating to dermatology.
The Michigan Dermatological Society is comprised of over 300 members from all areas of the state, Canada and northern Ohio. While over 95% of these members are physicians, MDS does accept membership from non-physicians, such as veterinarians, PhD degree holders, scientists and dentists who devote a significant portion of their time to dermatologic care.
