MSMS Tanning Salon Regulation Could Curb Skin Cancer. The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) testified today that legislation requiring parental consent for under age tanning would help reduce risks of skin cancer. The legislation, HB 4146 sponsored by Rep. Frank ACCAVITTI (D-Eastpointe), is in line with legislation in 25 other states. "Skin cancer rates continue to increase and new studies have shown that there is an unequivocal correlation between tanning bed use and skin cancer," said Dr. Kay WATNICK, a West Bloomfield dermatologist and member of the Michigan Dermatological Society. The group, along with MSMS, supports the legislation.
